Janet and John Manning decided to rent a retirement property through Girlings Retirement Options in January 2010 in Bournemouth when, at 71 years of age, Janet finally retired from her position as a house manager for The Abbeyfield Society, a national charity that provides housing with care to older people.

Prior to working for the charity, the couple had owned a Park Home in Cornwall which they had loved. However, because they missed their family in Dorset they eventually decided to relocate to be near them.
