Elderly switch to rental market to free up cash

A GROWING number of older homeowners are selling their home and switching to renting.The sales are seen as a drastic step to beat the squeeze on their living standards.

Based on figures from the HomeLet Rental index, it is calculated by Girlings Retirement Rentals, a private company dealing exclusively with renting private retirement property to the over-55s, that 1,074 people aged between 66 and 70 sold up during the last year to become tenants...
